BIOGRAPHY

GERRY BERWYN-JONES BSc (Hons) BA (Hons) MRICS Gerry has 24 years’ experience working for two of the most prestigious international fine art auction companies, Phillips and Bonhams, as a senior valuer and auctioneer. He started working in the world of antiques in the mid-1980’s for a renowned Knightsbridge company as an antique furniture buyer and manager. It was 10 years later after extensive experience and various promotions that he was offered the job of Branch Director with Phillips International Auctioneers. Phillips then sponsored Gerry to do the Southampton Fine Art Valuations degree course covering ceramics, glass, clocks, silver and rugs, with the core disciplines being pictures and furniture. RICS exams followed, then a year preparing for the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), culminating in passing a large valuation test with a final interview which completed the qualification process. This gave him an excellent grounding as a General Valuer, enhanced by the training and coaching at Phillips which was second to none. It was this combination of both academic and practical knowledge that enabled Gerry to undertake written, probate, market and insurance valuations to a higher standard for the ensuing 20 years. Furthermore, it also made him a better auctioneer due to his experience and contacts.
